Bencic wins, Bouchard loses in Indian Wells

Belinda Bencic advanced by overcoming an awful start and a match point to beat Timea Babos 1-6 6-1 7-6(4).

Bencic was so focused on the task at hand rather than the score that she did not know at the time that she faced match point when serving down 5-4 and 40-30 in the final set.

"I didn't realize it was match point actually," she said.

Eugenie Bouchard reached a settlement in her lawsuit with the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) on Friday after a fall at the 2015 U.S. Open resulted in her withdrawal and a concussion.

The terms of the settlement were confidential.

“It’s been two-and-a-half years, so I’m happy it’s over,” Bouchard told reporters outside a New York courtroom, the New York Times reported.

“I feel vindicated that I got the (jury) verdict yesterday. Just relief and happiness right now,” added the former world number five and Wimbledon finalist.

Eugenie Bouchard testifies against United States Tennis Association over locker room slip at US Open

Eugenie Bouchard took the witness stand in her negligence lawsuit against the United States Tennis Association, describing how she slipped and fell on a wet locker room floor at the US Open in 2015.

Bouchard had just played in a mixed doubles match when she returned to the locker room at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens shortly after 10 p.m. Minutes later, she fell on the tile floor of a physiotherapy room inside the locker room.

She told a jury in federal court in Brooklyn that she had taken two steps into the training area en route to take an ice bath when she lost her footing "and hit the back of my head on the floor." She recalled being in "shock" as she found herself "staring at the ceiling."

Bouchard, 23, has struggled since then, sliding from a career-high No. 5 ranking to 83rd.

Daria Gavrilova beat Eugenie Bouchard in straight sets but Thanasi Kokkinakis was made to work harder to edge out Vasek Pospisil and give Australia a winning start to their Hopman Cup campaign against Canada on Sunday.

Gavrilova gave the hosts a flying start in the round robin stage of the eight-nation mixed team event, beating former world number five Bouchard 6-1 6-4 at the Perth Arena.

The Australian raced to a 5-0 lead in the opener but faced more of a challenge in the next, despite claiming the first three games of the second set against the Canadian.

Genie Bouchard is still dating the guy from her lost Super Bowl bet?

Genie Bouchard is still dating the guy from her lost Super Bowl bet?

The unlikeliest romance of 2017 looks like it has a good chance of reaching 2018.

You might remember this fun story from last winter: Canadian tennis pro Genie Bouchard went on a date with one of her Twitter followers after betting him that the New England Patriots wouldn’t come back from a 21-0 hole to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl.

As you know, the Patriots eventually came back from 25 points and Bouchard held up her end of the bargain, taking 20-year-old Missouri student John Goehrke to sit courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game.

The two hit it off so well that Bouchard told media outlets there was a good chance of the couple getting together again and, lo and behold, the two showed up on social media together on Wednesday.

And lest anyone think their first public date was nothing but a publicity grab, they looked not only cozy but completely enveloped in the romantic holiday spirit.

That’s one way to spend a Christmas break.

Bouchard had a disappointing 2017 season, finishing the year ranked No. 82 in the world after being in the top 10 as recently as three years ago. She’ll depart for Australia soon to start the new season.

But apparently not before spending time with her favorite fan.

Eugenie Bouchard US Open Interview Day 3

Eugenie Bouchard US Open Interview Day 3

E. RODINA/E. Bouchard 7-6, 6-1
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. 6-5 in the first set, up to then, looked good. What happened after that?

EUGENIE BOUCHARD: I don't really know, to be honest. It's one of those matches you kind of want to forget about. I know obviously the unforced error count was a bit too high, especially at the end of that first set.
Yeah, I just didn't really know what to do out there.

Q. Coming in, you played not badly against Radwanska and not badly against Vekic. You must have been reasonably confident you would play at a good level in this match?
