Konta wins Wimbledon battle past Vekic

Johanna Konta won her second round match after beating Donna Vekic 7-6 4-6 10-8 at Wimbledon.

In one of the best matches of the tournament so far, which lasted three hours 10 minutes, Vekic's resilience kept her constantly in with a chance of an upset but sixth-seeded Konta's big serve frequently pulled her out of trouble.

Vekic beat Konta in the final of last month's WTA tournament in Nottingham and the pair embraced at the end of a gruelling contest in the afternoon heat.

Begu wins 2012 Tashkent Open title

Begu wins 2012 Tashkent Open title

Irina-Camelia Begu defeated Donna Vekic 64 64 to win the Tashkent Open 2012 title.

In 2011 Begu raised to No.38 in the world and won the the Newcomer Of The Year Award at the WTA Player Awards. This season she didn´t enjoy those great results she had last year but she looked sharp all week in Tashkent.

"My service is what got me through - Donna played very well and I was happy to break her in both sets," Begu said of the final. "I was a little worried when she came back from 4-2 to level the score 4-4 in the second set, but I managed to break her back immediately to take a 5-4 lead, and then I served it out.

"It feels great to win a title. I'll take back sweet memories from the Tashkent Open," the Romanian added. "I'm glad I made the last minute decision to play here, and I will surely come back to defend my title next year."
