CoCo Vandeweghe US Open Interview Day 3

C. VANDEWEGHE/A. Riske 2-6, 6-3, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. When you were coming to the tournament, tell me about what you thought about the draw.

COCO VANDEWEGHE: In what sense? My match, my first-round match?

Q. Yes.

COCO VANDEWEGHE: Well, I mean, to play one of your really good friends is not easy. Allie and I have had some good matches and some not-so-good matches on her end.
But we've played a lot. We've kind of come up through the ranks together, playing the challenger tour together. We've spent a lot of time together, Fed Cup, middle-of-nowhere places on the challenger tour.
It's not easy to play one of your good friends. But I'm happy to come away with the win.

Magdalena Rybarikova reaches her first semi-final at Wimbledon

Magdalena Rybarikova reaches her first semi-final at Wimbledon

Magdalena Rybarikova has reached the Wimbledon semifinals after beating Coco Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-3 in a match that started on No. 1 Court but finished under the roof on Centre Court because of rain.

The match was a thoroughly entertaining tussle and threw up a rare sight in the women's game -- two players willing to abandon the security of the baseline and charge to the net in the heat of battle. They even used serve-and-volley on occasion.

Vandeweghe's downfall was the careless mistakes that beset her game throughout, leaving her increasingly frustrated. The 25-year-old American, seeded 24, notched up 30 unforced errors compared with her opponent's eight, and double-faulted several times on crucial points.

It has been a dream run for Rybarikova, who was out of action for the second half of 2016 due to wrist and knee surgery.

"I have played only small tournaments so I have no idea how I would play here. I am glad I was composed, they changed court. But here I am!" Said Rybarikova.

My rehabilitation paid off - it's incredible. I could not imagine I could play like this, I was very focused. Next opponent will be tough but I have beaten her before. I cannot believe I am a Wimbledon semi-finalist. I need to sleep on it to believe it. I'm so happy and grateful. I had a really tough time and right now I'm here." She added.

Rybarikova, at No. 87 the lowest ranked Wimbledon semifinalist since 2008, will next face Garbine Muguruza.

CoCo Vandeweghe talks to the media after the 6-2, 6-4 win against Alison Riske

Q. Cruising into the second set 4-Love, talk us through what happened.
COCO VANDEWEGHE: Yeah, almost 5-Love. Yeah, I got a little bit -- I lost that game, and then, I mean, Alison is a great player, she started to swing a little bit freer in what she was doing.

You know, when you're down a set and two breaks, you'd think, you know, just kind of let loose, and then I kind of got a little bit tentative, but, you know, kind of reset myself and got back to work. Kept it close in the next service game. Got a little lucky and got that one, and then I was no way I was letting the next one go.

Q. Is that the reason for the fired up reactions at that point?
COCO VANDEWEGHE: Yeah, I kind of let so much slip, and it was more of a let out some frustration that I let that much of a lead slip.
